July 2008 Newsletter

By Harold Aune  VP Whitehall Rowing and Sail

We are getting very positive feedback from many boat owners regarding how happy they are that the current high cost of gasoline has not affected their boating pleasure in the least and that many of the waterways they go out on are getting quieter and even more enjoyable.
This spring we have sent new boats to owners who mentioned that they were specifically getting rowing boats because it just made more sense.
Welcome to the common sense club! Fresh air, quiet water sounds, stress relief, the best in fitness benefits, gorgeous boat, could become a trend!

Rita Nelson, her husband Craig and their two dogs all love their new Solo 14 shown here plying the waters of  Rubicon Bay on Lake Tahoe  California. Sometimes both dogs come along for the ride. Craig says they don’t know why they waited so long to get their boat because now they row every day.

Just last week I had the pleasure of doing a delivery to Clearwater B.C. which is about a six hour drive out of Vancouver. Star Lake Fishing Resort owners, Jerry and Joan Coulas helped unload the Whitehall Spirit 14 off the FJ roof racks and we immediately launched it and Jerry took it out for a spin on the lake. Of course he loved it and I took the shots shown above. The ice had only been off the lake for only a month and the trout were hungry. You could see them rising all around the lake. They invited me to stay for a fishing break but I had to press on to another meeting. You can check out their website at  http://www.starlakefishingresort.com/

Gel Seat Pads are now available!

After hearing from a couple of you that that their slide seats were causing “numbutt” we located two styles of Gel seat pads that are now available to order should you feel the need. I personally have never used one over the years but after giving them a try I could feel the difference and it was softer with both of the models we tested.

The Skwoosh (black only) lists at $27.99 plus shipping and the Gel Sport (black or red) lists for $24.99 We haven’t had them long enough to say whether one is better but the Skwoosh has a nylon canvas textured surface topside and the Gel sport has a softer stretchy cloth topside and will fold up. They both feature a kind of sticky material underneath so they don’t shift around while rowing.

We have had our busiest sales year so far for both the Classic models and the new Solo 14 thermoformed model. Classic inventories are at an all time low but there is still time to have a boat built and delivered for this season if the orders are placed as soon as possible. Colin Rolls and the crew of professionals in our glas shop and wood shop enjoy meeting the deadlines for shipment and take extreme pride in producing perfect top quality workmanship .

I’ve been a bit too busy this year to personally do much sailing so if any of you have some sailing stories and pictures call or send an email. I’d love to feature them in the next newsletter.
