My Whitehall arrived on schedule. Friday the 23rd.

Friday and Saturday I spent rowing with various members of the family. Sunday there was a heavy blow and I went out by myself with the jib alone. I didn’t realize she wouldn’t come about without the main, so I got plenty of practice heading up into the wind then using an oar to bring her over! It was a lot of fun until I tried to get back into the inner harbor and couldn’t make much way tacking since the lee drift was significant with the wind at about 25-30. So I dropped the jib and began to row. It was tough going head on in that much breeze, but I made it. The boat handles rough conditions remarkably well.

Hopefully I’ll get the main up next weekend and try out the sliding seat as well. The boat is a work of art. I appreciate how nicely the lines are drawn and the details so carefully worked out. The choices reflect an obvious respect for functional simplicity, durability and appearance. I have to smile to myself every time I discover a new feature so elegantly refined.

October 12th
Thanks for the new cover support pole. It fits well and should cure the sagging problems I’ve experienced. I decided that for the low cost involved that a davit set ready made by Davit Master Corp. was easier and less hassle than getting them fabricated. They have proven excellent for my set up and I have attached photos for you.

The boat continues to be a great joy. Now that the cool weather is upon us, I’ve taken to sailing less and sculling more. I love the versatility your Whitehall design offers.

Quite a few cruising yachtsmen have come alongside to offer their compliments. A few have asked who the builder is, which I am happy to pass along. Like most of your customers, I feel a distinct pride of ownership.
