This letter from Roger Turrall of Belleville, Ontario came shortly after he received his Whitehall Spirit 14 rowing model.
“Depending on your point of view, Christmas has either come late or arrived early. I couldn’t be more pleased with the boat. When the truck pulled up to the driveway I had three neighbours as well as two truck drivers to unload. I would recommend the power tailgate to anyone as it made the whole procedure as simple as hoisting a spinnaker in a 15 knot breeze.”
“The crate was something else. We attacked it with pry bars and hammers and had it taken apart in twenty minutes. There wasn’t a mark on the hull or brightwork.”
“The quality of the craftsmanship on the entire craft was outstanding. I have friends with boats over thirty feet worth thousands more, but the fit and finish of those boats can’t compare to what your crew produces.”
To our amazement a few weeks later we received a package containing a number of Roger’s immaculate drawings, all of classic lapstrake boats including the famous “Bounty”, along with this letter.
“Just thought I’d send you a gift to show my appreciation for the quality of the work that went into the Whitehall. It is truly a remarkable craft.”
The launch was delayed for several weeks thanks to Mother Nature. Finally on April 15th after three weeks of rain, wind, cold and snow it slide into the bay. Launching and recovery in onshore winds at 25 KM per hour wasn’t a problem - much to my surprise.
I recommend my new Gill Amara Regatta Gloves. They are perfect for rowing, especially early in the season.

…and after a few months rowing.
“The boat is fantastic. I can’t believe how much distance can be covered with so little effort. The only mistake I’ve made to date…I forgot to put the plug in before launching. That little hole lets a lot of water in, quickly.”
“So far it hasn’t taken a drop of water over the bow. A cabin cruiser went by me the other day and sent out walls of water that could have been used in “The Perfect Storm.” There were four waves in the series. The pitching increased with each one, but the boat handled them with no trouble. As the water temperature is only 10 C, I gave thanks that you’ve designed a boat that I feel safer in than boats twice her size.”
