WHITEHALL ROWING AND SAIL LAUNCHES REVOLUTIONARY

NEW HYBRID SLIDE SEAT ROWING BOAT- THE WHITEHALL SPIRIT SOLO 14

Victoria, B.C. September 30, 2007 …. With sleek white rowboats plying the Gorge, rowing champs relaxing, seafaring music and flags snapping in the breeze, the famous waterway never looked better as Whitehall Rowing and Sail owners Marie Hutchinson and Harold Aune christened the latest in the Whitehall line of high quality rowing boats – the Whitehall Spirit Solo 14.

“What makes the Whitehall Spirit Solo 14 unique in the world is its slide seat set-up and sculling oars in addition to its modern thermoformed construction – a production method perfected by us” said Aune, who designed the Solo.  “This revolutionary boat is light, easy to trailer, takes passengers, is virtually maintenance-free, stable and seaworthy. Already there is demand from as far away as Australia for a boat that combines a classic look with this incredible fitness option.  Many people don’t realize that slide seat rowing gives twice the calorie burn of jogging with no joint strain.”

Slide seat rowing is fast gaining attention as a near perfect way to build stamina, improve cardio-vascular health and control weight without joint strain.  It is proven to help mind/body balance with the complete involvement of arms and legs using the slide seat set-up. The only boat builder in North America that delivers right to the purchaser door, dock or marina, Whitehall has its own tractor trailer that has been criss-crossing the USA and Canada for over 10 years delivering orders.  Well-known in the eastern states, with the introduction of the Whitehall Spirit Solo 14 it is hoped the company will become better known in Canada.

“We’ve been not only pioneers in this business of combining classic rowing with slide seat ability but we were amongst the first to go big into internet marketing in 1995” said owner Harold Aune.  “Over 60% or our orders now come from the internet.  People looking for a good rowboat, dinghy or tender do their research – then settle on us.”  He said thoughtfully “We’ve been so busy filling orders, we haven’t had time to wave our oars in our own back yard.  So that is why we are throwing this happy event so others can discover the joys of rowing and find out who we are.”

Paying tribute to the fitness aspect of the rowing industry, Aune and Hutchinson recently donated a Solo 14 to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. The Solo will be used as a bonus prize for the Foundation’s annual Big Bike fundraising campaign which starts in April of 2008.

Harold Aune and Marie Hutchinson founded Whitehall Rowing And Sail in 1985, after several years building yachts, custom houseboats and sailing around the world in the innovative trimaran Aune designed.

Marie Hutchinson has had a life-long interest in health practices.  Before helping to give birth to a successful boat building company, she was a midwife.  Today in her spare time she investigates alternate healing and is practitioner of the ancient art of Jin Shin Jyutsu.
